Country Wisdom & Know-How

This book has everything from how to raise bees, to how to make cheese to how to build a stone wall and loads of great recipes, too! With nearly 200 individual topics of country and self-sustained living this book has everything you need to live off the land. The only problem I have with it is the print is very tiny.

Homemade carpet freshener

I’ve been reading this book I got from the library,  The Detox Strategy: Vibrant Health in 5 Easy Steps by Brenda Watson and found a great recipe for carpet freshener:

Carpet Freshener

4 cups baking soda
35 drops eucalyptus oil
30 drops lavender essential oil
25 drops rosewood essential oil

Mix essential oils and baking soda in a bowl. Break up any clumps that may form, stir until well mixed. Sprinkle powder onto floor and let sit for about 15 minutes, then vacuum. Store in a glass jar, and keep in  a cool dry place.

I made it with half the recipe and substituted lemon essential oil for the rosewood since I didn’t have it on hand. It works great, made the rooms smell lovely!

It’s so nice to be eating fresh lettuce every day now! I sprinkle some chives, oregano, basil and mint to make a tasty salad. Oh, and radishes too.
